How to Pray the Chaplet of the Fifteen Secret Tortures of Jesus
A devotional guide by Gifted Memories Faith

The Chaplet of the Fifteen Secret Tortures of Jesus is a deeply moving devotion revealed by Our Lord to Blessed Mary Magdalene Martinengo. Jesus asked that these hidden sufferings be remembered, honoured, and offered with love. This chaplet invites the faithful into a profound meditation on the Passion and is prayed using a simple structure of opening prayers, reflections, and a closing offering.
Below is a full guide on how to pray the chaplet.
1. Begin with the Opening Reflection
Hold the crucifix of your chaplet and reflect on the words Jesus spoke:
“I looked for one that would comfort Me, and I found none.”
Let this moment draw you into His loneliness, His suffering, and His love.
2. On Each of the First Three Beads
Pray the following sequence on each bead:
-
1 Our Father
-
1 Hail Mary
-
1 Glory Be
These three beads honour the abandonment Jesus felt and prepare your heart to meditate on His hidden tortures.
3. On Each of the Fifteen Single Beads
For each bead, reflect briefly on one of the Fifteen Secret Tortures revealed to Blessed Mary Magdalene.
You may choose to silently meditate, read the list, or focus on a single image or phrase.
The Fifteen Tortures are:
-
Jesus was tied by the feet and dragged down stone steps into a foul, stinking prison.
-
His garments were torn off and His Body was stabbed with sharp iron instruments.
-
He was pulled violently across the ground by ropes tied around His Body.
-
He was hung by a slipknot from a wooden beam until He fell, shedding tears of blood.
-
He was bound to a post and pierced repeatedly with various sharp weapons.
-
He was struck with stones and burned by blazing embers and torches.
-
He was pierced with pointed tools and spears that tore His Skin and Flesh.
-
He was forced to stand barefoot on burning hot metal.
-
He was crowned with iron and blindfolded with filthy rags.
-
He was made to sit on a chair covered in sharp nails, causing deep wounds and agony.
-
Boiling lead and hot resin were poured into His wounds, and He was pressed again onto the nailed chair.
-
Needles were pushed into the places where His Beard had been torn out, and He was dragged from the prison with blows.
-
He was thrown onto the cross and stretched so tightly that breathing became nearly impossible.
-
His Head was forced to the ground, His Chest crushed under the weight of their feet, and a thorn was driven into His Tongue.
-
He endured the pouring of indecent filth into His Mouth while being mocked with shameful insults.
Allow each meditation to deepen your awareness of His love and sacrifice.
4. Conclude on the Crucifix
Finish the chaplet by praying the traditional closing offering:
“O Jesus, for the sake of Your secret sufferings,
grant me the grace I ask of You,
if it be according to Your holy will.
Amen.”
You may also add spontaneous prayer, thanksgiving, or an intention for the souls in Purgatory.
