St. Rita was born in Cascia, Italy. From an early age, she knew that she wanted to dedicate her life to God as a nun. But her parents wanted her to marry. St. Rita obeyed them and had two sons. Later in her life, she was able to enter the monastery and became a nun.
St. Rita loved the crucifix very much. One day, she knelt down and asked to share in the sufferings of Jesus. A thorn from Jesus’ crown of thorns shot into St. Rita’s forehead, leaving a wound for the rest of her life. Her faith and trust in God were so strong that things that seemed impossible were made possible!
